Your Ultimate Pregnancy FAQs Answered: Part 1
Whether you’re pregnant for the first time or have had multiple pregnancies, you likely have many questions about what to expect. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about pregnancy that every mom should know.
If you have missed your period, the best time to take a pregnancy test is on the first day of that missed period. If you aren’t sure when your next period will be, you can take a test at least 21 days after you last had unprotected intercourse. Some more sensitive pregnancy tests can tell you sooner as well. If you believe you may be pregnant, speak with your doctor about taking a test.
Going to regular doctor’s visits during your pregnancy not only keeps you and your baby healthy, it also gives you a chance to discuss any concerns you are having. You should start as soon as possible after you know you are pregnant.
Depending on your health, and that of your baby, you may be able to stick to a regular schedule of visits. If you have an at-risk pregnancy, you will need to visit more often. Your doctor will work with you as an individual to schedule appointments based on your unique needs. Here is a basic guide to doctor’s visits that you can work off of to help prepare yourself.
Every pregnancy is unique, so you may not experience the same symptoms as other women. With that being said, here are some of the most common early signs that you could be pregnant.
Speaking of changes in your breasts, you may wonder what is normal and what should be concerning. It is best to speak with your doctor when you first know you are pregnant so you know what to watch out for. Being prepared is the best way to understand your own body during pregnancy. Some common breast changes during pregnancy include:
As your body changes, you may notice these or other changes that are out of the ordinary for you. If you are ever concerned about anything during pregnancy, don’t hesitate to speak with your doctor.
This is one of the most exciting times in your pregnancy! Because every woman is unique, there is no way to know exactly when you will show. The top of your uterus will push up as it expands out of your pelvic area, which is what leads to a visible baby bump. This happens at around 12 weeks but could occur sooner. On average, most women start to show in their second trimester.
Most women will start to feel their baby move at 16 to 24 weeks, though some women who have had previous pregnancies may feel their baby move sooner. If you are concerned about not feeling movement, talk to your doctor. They may recommend an ultrasound or other tests to ensure the baby is healthy and growing properly.
The exact timing of morning sickness can vary, but many women begin feeling nauseous as early as six weeks. The symptoms should start to go away in the second trimester, but for some women, they can last during the entire pregnancy.
It is important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet during pregnancy. While there are certain foods that should be avoided, such as raw or undercooked meats and fish, unpasteurized dairy products, and caffeine, it is also important to listen to your body and avoid foods that may cause discomfort or adverse reactions. It is recommended to consult with your doctor about diet when you become pregnant.
